Take the fast lane

Enjoy a new sustainable travel alternative to get you anywhere you want to go: a car (yep, you heard me). Your own car, when shared, can be a way to save money, reduce emissions, meet people and have fun.

The Squeeze: There are one billion cars in the world, and they emit up to 5 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year.

Geez, when you think about the fact that in 78% of all car rides drivers travel alone, it is not surprising that people have started to reduce cars’ massive impact on the environment by sharing rides!

Cutting down on driving is one of the biggest actions we can take to reduce our carbon footprint and be more environmentally friendly.  Jayride is a national ride-sharing network where you can find people who are travelling in the same direction as you - whether that be on your daily trip to work, or on a one-off trip - and fill a space in your car, or become a passenger in someone else’s car. There are over 10,000 members, and over 80,000 rides have been shared.

And if you cannot find a fellow traveller, Jayride will show you the other transport options for your trip and help fill empty seats on buses, trains and ferries.

Living Lime: Through European carpooling website www.carpooling.com, one million people are transported every month. Thousands of friendships have been formed, and there have even been 10 weddings!

To squeeze some more green out of your day: Is it possible to walk or catch the bus to your destination? Think about ways you can use your car less often.
